5 Tips to Cope with COVID-19 Stress

We are facing troubling times; the spread of Coronavirus has disrupted our daily lives, habits, and, most importantly, our peace of mind. Emotional stress is a very real thing that many of us are experiencing, so you may be asking yourself how can stress make you sick and how you can cope with stress symptoms, especially if you need to stay inside.

1. Turn Off the TV

While it’s important that you stay informed about the COVID-19 situation in your area, information overload can easily lead to psychological stress. Turn off the TV, stay out of social media for a bit, and try to focus on something else. You’ll feel the difference right away.

2. Don’t Forget About Your Body

Stress can have an enormous impact on your physical health. How? Stress affects the body by causing everything from headaches to ulcers. The current state of the world can be very scary and stressful, so now more than ever is essential to take care of ourselves physically, not just mentally. This means eating healthy and exercising or meditating. Now it’s the time to try out those healthy recipes you’ve been eyeing on Youtube.

3. Take Time to Unwind

Doing something you enjoy, even for a few minutes every day can make a tremendous difference in your overall mood. Start or finish that drawing, book, craft, or project you’ve wanted to dive into but haven’t got around to it.

4. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Stress symptoms can worsen if you don’t get enough sleep. The recommended amount of rest can help you stay focused and healthy, avoid any stimulants before bedtime (caffeine, alcohol, nicotine). If you’re too stressed to sleep, a pre-bedtime routine could help you relax, take a bath, read a book, do some yoga. Anything that clears your mind will be useful.

5. Stay connected

Talking to people you trust and care about is one of the best types of stress management, especially when you are social distancing. Be open about what you’re feeling and share those emotions with a loved one, being honest with yourself, and letting those feelings out will help you tremendously to lessen stress symptoms.
