Washington Auto Insurance Requirements
To comply with Washington’s mandatory auto insurance law, you must carry liability insurance to help pay for property damage or injuries resulting from a car accident that you cause.
Your Washington auto insurance coverage must have these minimums:
- $25,000 for one person’s injuries or one death.
- $50,000 total for two or more people’s injuries or death per accident
- $10,000 for property damage.
Optional Car insurance Washington state
Washington car insurance laws require that all drivers have liability car insurance. But there is additional coverage that you should consider adding to your policy to make sure you are fully protected.
- Collision: Helps cover accident-related damages to your car.
- Comprehensive: Helps cover non-collision damage to your car, such as vandalism.
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist: Helps pay for your injuries or property damage if you are in a car accident caused by an uninsured driver or a driver whose insurance policy is not sufficient to cover all of the costs.
- Personal injury protection (PIP): Helps pay for medical expenses and loss of income.
While you are not required to carry PIP in Washington state, car insurance companies are required to offer it to you. If you decide to reject it, you must do so in writing.
