How Much Is Auto Insurance for a Chevy?
The average annual premium for a Chevrolet C/K Series is $585 for minimum liability coverage and $1,682 for full coverage.

Comparing Insurance Costs for Your C/K Series to Other Vehicles
There are several reasons why premiums for similar models like the Dodge RAM, Ford F-Series, and the GMC Sierra 1500 may be higher or lower. These include recall records, reliability ratings, safety features and repair costs for parts and labor.

Types of Insurance Coverage for Chevy Trucks
Freeway Insurance offers several types of policies, including but not limited to state minimum liability and full coverage insurance.
Full coverage consists of a comprehensive and collision insurance policy, which offers protection against a broader range of scenarios. This provides first-party benefits for you regardless of who is at fault in an accident. Unlike liability-only policies, which benefit third parties only, full coverage helps protect you a little more.
Generally, full coverage costs much more than minimum liability policies, thanks to these additional benefits.
We highly recommend full rather than state minimum liability policies. Each state’s mandated limits may come well short of the average cost of a new vehicle — not good enough for a total loss to be covered. Also, remember that most leasing and financing companies require you to raise your liability limits to higher levels to preserve their vehicle’s value better.
Keep in mind that full coverage does not include roadside assistance, new car replacement, gap coverage, or rental car reimbursement. You can add these optional types of coverage as needed to fit your circumstances.
State Minimum Liability
All drivers must carry at least the state minimum liability policy with third-party benefits for bodily injury and property damage.
Every state has its requirements related to minimum liability. For example, Louisiana requires that all drivers carry a minimum 15/30/15 policy, or $15,000 for bodily injury liability to one person, $30,000 for bodily injury liability to more than one person in a single accident, and $25,000 for property damage liability.
A state minimum liability policy may require you to go out of pocket to pay for expenses. After you pay your deductible, your insurer will kick in and cover the rest up to your policy limits.
If you are caught driving your Chevy without a state minimum liability policy, expect your driver’s license and registration to be suspended on top of fines and administrative fees. Your driver’s license and registration will be returned to you as soon as proof of insurance is provided, barring some exceptions.
How Does a DUI Affect Insurance Rates for Trucks?
If you have been convicted of a DUI, expect your premiums to skyrocket, even tripling in some cases, depending on the scenario.
Your rates will most likely remain elevated for a minimum of three years. Different states have distinct look-back windows on the length of time a DUI conviction appears on your record. A standard first offense is more likely to be a misdemeanor, unless you are at fault in an accident resulting in injury or death, which would then be classified as a felony.
Depending on the state, you may also be required to file an SR-22, which is proof of financial responsibility that you are carrying the minimum liability limits. All insurance companies file SR-22 on your behalf. In Florida and Virginia, they are known as FR-44s.
Expect to purchase higher coverage limits. With second or subsequent offenses, your insurer may cancel your policy outright. Fortunately, there are cheap DUI insurance policies, but you will have a more difficult time finding one.
What Are Some Auto Insurance Discounts?
Luckily there are many ways that pickup truck drivers can save on an auto policy with discounts.
Discounts generally fall into four categories — driver history, vehicle features, policy-related and personal traits.
- Driver history discounts include accident-free, safe driver, and good driver discounts awarded to C/K drivers that have not made a claim or filed any traffic violations within the last three to five years.
- Policy-related discounts focus on the way you structure your policy. For example, bundling two or more insurance types from the same insurer, enrolling in auto-pay/paperless billing, and paying your entire annual premium upfront could all save you a few dollars on your next bill.
- There are also price reductions for demographics and group affiliations, such as being a current or former member of the military or belonging to a union.
Check with your agent to make sure you are getting credit for all the discounts available.
